Media Release January 2010

The Australia Day weekend sees the third annual Twilight Hot Rod Show take place at Rocklea Showground, corner Ipswich (service) Road and Goburra Street, Rocklea.

The Twilight Hot Rod Show will be held on Sunday January 24, 2010 from 2pm to 8pm, allowing patrons to enjoy the summertime show in the cool of the afternoon.

The hot rod display features a special category for pre-1970 Australian-built cars. Drivers are encouraged to display their Holdens, Valiants, Fords or Chryslers, whether they are in daily-driver or restored condition.

"The Australia Day weekend is an ideal time to acknowledge our Aussie motoring heritage and shake off those back to work blues."

Live Concert

A first class line up of Australian rockabilly entertainers will be performing, including:
- Pat Capocci Combo (from Newcastle)
- Danny & The Cosmic Tremors (from Sydney)
- The Ten Fours (from Brisbane)

There will also be a wide range of market stalls, plus food, refreshments and free sample bags for the kids.

The Twilight Hot Rod Show is open to all-ages and families are welcome.

Entry is $15 for adults and children under 15 are free.

New Venue

Due to the popularity of the Twilight Hot Rod Show, the event has been moved to a larger site at the Rocklea Showground, corner of Ipswich Road (service road) and Goburra Street, Rocklea.

As well as the hot rod display area, the new venue offers free public parking and is suitable for rain or shine.

Past Rivals United

Easily stated, most car fans in Australia can be divided into two camps, Ford fans and Holden fans and the two usually stay mutually exclusive.

When it comes to old time car collectors the lines get a bit blurred, but when it comes to car collector Paul Lawless and his collection of sixties cars, that line is omitted all together.

Many in town know Paul as the proprietor of Annerley Meats and his prize winning gourmet sausages. On the roads in the area, one can see Paul defying that single-make camp with a big grin on his face, while he pilots his all-original 1961 EK Holden sedan or his 1966 XP Falcon utility.

How he came to acquire two such fabulous examples of 1960s iron is a story for another time, but for now just know that a true petrol head’s heart can know two masters.

It’s this kind of passion and freedom from convention that will be high-lighted by the automotive excellence that will be on display at Twilight Hot Rod Show being held on the Sunday of the Australia Day weekend at the Rocklea Showground.
